Event Description
Avani Lekhara is a pioneering Indian para shooter who made history as the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold medal and the first to win two gold medals across multiple Games. At the Paris 2024 Paralympics, she successfully defended her title in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event, setting a new Paralympic record of 249.7.
Summary
Avani Lekhara's journey is a masterclass in turning adversity into an advantage. After a life-altering accident in 2012 left her with paraplegia, she didn't just adapt; she excelled. Inspired by Abhinav Bindra’s journey, she picked up a rifle in 2015 and transformed from a hobbyist into a history-maker. Today, she stands as the first Indian woman to win three Paralympic medals, including back-to-back golds in the 10m air rifle standing SH1 at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
