Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma is a highly distinguished Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1995-batch (Maharashtra cadre), currently serving as an Inspector General of Police (IGP). His extraordinary life journey from the depths of extreme poverty to the upper echelons of Indian bureaucracy became a national phenomenon through the blockbuster biographical film, 12th Fail (2023). Born in the Chambal division of Madhya Pradesh, Sharma famously flunked his Class 12 board examinations but refused to let failure define him. While preparing for the highly competitive UPSC Civil Services Examination in Delhi, he survived on the margins, working as a tempo driver, dog walker, and library peon, before triumphantly cracking the exam on his fourth and final attempt.
