Captain Vikram Batra, PVC, the iconic hero of the 1999 Kargil War, stands as an eternal symbol of unparalleled bravery, leadership, and ultimate sacrifice. An alumnus of the prestigious DAV College, Chandigarh where he graduated in 1995, Batra later joined the Indian Army's 13 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles. Affectionately nicknamed "Sher Shah" (Lion King) by his peers and feared by enemy forces, he galvanized his troops with his legendary victory war cry, "Yeh Dil Maange More!". His indomitable spirit and devotion to duty transformed him from a focused college student into one of the most celebrated military figures in Indian history.

Summary

Captain Batra's military achievements are defined by his extraordinary, high-altitude victories during Operation Vijay. He led the daring assault that successfully recaptured the critical, near-vertical peak of Point 5140 from enemy occupation. Later, while leading a treacherous mission to clear heavily fortified positions at Point 4875, he was mortally wounded while selflessly shielding a fellow injured soldier.
