Sonam Wangchuk is a prominent Indian engineer, innovator, education reformer, and environmental activist from Ladakh. He is globally recognized for his community-driven learning systems and sustainable technological innovations tailored for high-altitude mountain life.
Summary
He invented these artificial cone-shaped glaciers that store winter wastewater. They melt during spring to provide essential irrigation water for Ladakhi farmers.: Wangchuk designed low-cost mud structures that utilize solar technology to keep indoor temperatures at +15°C even when winters drop to -15°C outside. He later extended this to design eco-tents for Indian Army troops.
