Master Lalkansung

Event Description

Master Lalkansung is a young national hero from the Churachandpur district of Manipur, India, who became widely celebrated for his extraordinary act of selflessness. On July 2, 2019, when he was just 10 years old, he witnessed three young girls struggling and drowning in deep water at a village pond in Muolbem. Without stopping to calculate the threat to his own life, the untrained young swimmer instinctively plunged into the pond and single-handedly brought all three girls safely back to the shore.

Summary

For his fearlessness and swift decision-making, the Government of India conferred upon him the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2020 in the bravery category. He received this high civilian honour for children from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, acknowledging that his prompt actions averted what could have been a devastating community tragedy.
