Kiuchenghan Phukon seven-year-old swimming prodigy established a landmark maritime record by successfully crossing the 12-kilometer open-water course from Elephanta Island Jetty to the Gateway of India. At the exact age of 7 years, 11 months, and 30 days, she navigated the challenging currents and unpredictable tides of the Arabian Sea. She completed the grueling endurance swim in a registered time of 3 hours and 29 minutes, officially making her the youngest open-water swimmer to accomplish this feat.

Hailing from Charaideo, Assam, Phukon’s historic swim has been formally certified by both the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records. In addition to setting the age record, she also holds the distinction of being the first female swimmer from Northeast India to successfully complete an open-sea crossing in the Arabian Sea.
